What To Do If Something Happened During Delivery?

What To Do If Something Happened During Delivery

Delivery is meant to be simple: you place an order, the store prepares it, and it shows up at your door. Most deliveries go smoothly — but once in a while, something unexpected happens. A driver may be delayed, an item may be missing, a bag might arrive damaged, or the delivery may be marked complete before you receive it.

If anything happens during your Abboda delivery, don’t stress. This guide explains what to do right away, how we handle common issues, and how to help us resolve problems faster.

Step 1: Check your order status first

Before assuming something went wrong, take 10 seconds to check your order status inside Abboda. Delivery status updates may show:

  • Preparing (the store is still packing your items)
  • Picked up (the driver is on the way)
  • Arriving soon (the driver is close)
  • Delivered (the delivery was completed)

If your order is still marked “Preparing,” the delay may be store-related, not driver-related. If it’s “Picked up” and moving, you’re likely fine — just running a few minutes behind.

Step 2: Review your delivery instructions

A large portion of delivery problems are caused by small instruction issues. Quickly confirm:

  • correct address
  • correct apartment number
  • gate code (if applicable)
  • clear notes like “leave at door,” “call on arrival,” or “deliver to lobby”
  • correct phone number

If the driver can’t access your building, can’t find the unit, or can’t contact you, the delivery may be delayed or returned.

Common delivery issues and what to do

1) The driver is running late

Delays can happen due to traffic, weather, store prep time, or driver availability. If your delivery is late:

What to do:

  • wait a few extra minutes if the order is actively moving
  • keep your phone nearby in case the driver calls
  • if the delivery hasn’t moved for a long time, contact support

What helps us solve it faster:

  • your order number
  • your address (or nearest cross streets)
  • what the tracking/status currently shows

2) My order says “Delivered” but I didn’t get it

This can happen if:

  • the order was left at the wrong door
  • it was delivered to a neighbor by mistake
  • it was marked complete early
  • it was stolen after being left outside

What to do immediately:

  1. Check around your home/building (front desk, lobby, side door, neighbors).
  2. Confirm your delivery instructions.
  3. Contact Abboda Support as soon as possible.

The faster you report it, the easier it is to investigate and resolve.

3) Items are missing or incorrect

Sometimes a store may accidentally forget an item, or a substitution may be made incorrectly.

What to do:

  • check the receipt/packing slip if included
  • confirm whether the item was marked “out of stock” or substituted
  • contact support with:
    • the missing item(s)
    • photos if possible
    • your order number

We’ll work with the store to correct it and determine the right resolution.

4) My order arrived damaged or spilled

This is usually caused by packaging issues or movement during transport.

What to do:

  • take a photo right away (before throwing anything away)
  • contact support with the photo + order number
  • tell us what was damaged and whether anything is unsafe to consume

Photos make it much easier to resolve these cases quickly.

5) The driver couldn’t complete the delivery

A delivery can fail if:

  • the address is unreachable
  • the customer can’t be contacted
  • the location is unsafe
  • age verification is required and can’t be completed (for restricted items)

What to do:

  • make sure your phone is on and you can answer
  • confirm your address and instructions are correct
  • contact support if you believe the delivery failed incorrectly

For age-restricted items, remember: no valid ID = no handoff.

6) I need to change my address after ordering

Changing addresses mid-delivery can be difficult because pricing and routing depend on distance.

Best practice:

  • if the store hasn’t prepared the order yet, contact support quickly and we may be able to adjust
  • if the order is already picked up, changes may not be possible

Tips to prevent delivery issues

Most problems are preventable with a few habits:

  • Always include apartment number + gate code
  • Add clear delivery instructions
  • Keep your phone available during delivery window
  • Make sure the delivery location is accessible (lights on, correct building entrance)
  • If you’re ordering restricted items, have your ID ready

How Abboda handles delivery issues

Abboda’s goal is to be fair and fast. When an issue is reported, we review:

  • order status and timing
  • store confirmation and packing details
  • delivery completion signals (when available)
  • photos and customer notes

Then we work toward the best resolution, which may include:

  • credit
  • item adjustment
  • refund (when appropriate)
  • re-delivery (depending on situation and store policy)

The bottom line

If something happens during your delivery, the most important thing is to act quickly and share clear details (order number, what happened, and photos if relevant). Most issues can be resolved smoothly when we have accurate information early.

If you need help at any time, Abboda Support is here — and we’ll make it right whenever possible.
